To borrow a phrase from Janet Jackson, “What have you done for yourself lately?” Or more specifically, “What have you done to build your practice lately?” Getting your marketing efforts rolling in the new year can be exhilarating or it can be overwhelming. So while I urge you to set aside a few hours in the next few days to write down your marketing goals for the year, do something NOW. Take action as soon as you can. Action is everything.
There are any number of things you can do right now to kick-start your marketing efforts for the year. Here are just a few: Write down your top three referral sources, set up a lunch date with them in the next week. Set up a free lunch & learn for your clients in your office. Clean your office. Put a big bowl of candy in your reception area. Volunteer to speak for a local organization that’s relevant to your practice. Call three former clients just to check in and see how they are doing.
The point is to do something. Anything. Get going. As Seth Godin asks in his cool book The Big Moo – What, Exactly, Are You Afraid Of? Doing the wrong thing? Not knowing what to do? Relax! You won’t do the wrong thing. And doing something is always better than doing nothing. So do something. It’ll make you feel great. Like the guy in the picture.
